Remove Unpaid Post-Purchase Items From Orders Automatically

Plans: All Plans Platforms: Shopify

Overview

In the post-purchase settings of AfterShip Personalization, you can enable or disable the “Remove if unpaid” setting. Sometimes an approved post-purchase offer item is not paid for, and your customer will receive a message of “transaction declined” or “payment failed” for several reasons.

The two main reasons are:

Payment declined from the bank (customer side)
Payment declined from the payment processor (payment processor side)

This setting is designed to remove the hassle of manually removing unpaid products from the orders so that orders can be processed and fulfilled more efficiently.

What you’ll learn

In this tutorial, we will show you:

How to auto-remove unpaid products
Additional considerations

How to auto-remove unpaid products

Log into your AfterShip Personalization admin dashboard
Navigate to Settings > Post-purchase page
Shift the radio button on the time bar to set the time as per your preference to automatically remove a cross-sell or upsell product from the customer’s order after the time you set if the payment fails for any reason

By default, the Remove if unpaid setting would be enabled and set to 60 minutes. The setting will remove any unpaid post-purchase product from the order automatically if payment is not processed and received in 60 minutes.
You can set your own time based on your preference and business goals and save the changes to activate the new time change
Disable the Remove if unpaid setting if you want the unpaid post-purchase product to remain in the order even after the payment is not received

This feature doesn’t apply to subscription products.

Additional considerations

Unpaid products are only removed from the orders placed via the post-purchase offer
Products with the payment status Unpaid are removed from the orders placed via the post-purchase offer
Products with the payment status Partially paid are removed from the orders placed via the post-purchase offer
Unpaid items can only be removed from orders with Unfulfilled or Partially fulfilled status. We don’t remove items from orders with Fulfilled status
Unpaid items are also not removed from orders with Cancelled, Archived, or On hold statuses
Unpaid items are only removed from the orders after the time you have set from the time the checkout is done if payment is not received before then
Unpaid items removed from the orders are not considered in the calculation of Total revenue
For the unpaid post-purchase offer product with a Shipping fee, the order will remain in the Partially paid status even after the unpaid item is removed from the order because we do not remove the unpaid shipping amount from the order
